i’m mostly recovered from i guess, the flu. meh. the past few days have been filled with food. lots of food. christmas eve we had another banner ‘7 fish feast’ that included everything from skate to bacalao to calamari to good old beef. and christmas crackers! i ate too much but it was worth it: yes, cool beans! is engraved on my ipad. i say cool beans probably...

Scandinavian christmas.
nope we’re not scandinavian [although the S.O is french canadian - sort of close? no, no it’s not AND i love all things scandinavian like mew, nephew — okay, fine, i like 2 denmarkian bands <- is that a word?] but we get these fancy gifts each year as a holiday pressie. i love it this will vanish in a few days. as if we never received this. merry christmas to me.

cook's illustrated.
i was pleasantly surprised when i received this cookbook in the mail [thanks brooke!].  last night i made cheese bread and it came out great. the book is nice because it gives you the reason why you’re previous recipes fail and why this one succeeds. here’s the recipe and background: WHY THIS RECIPE WORKS: Run-of-the-mill cheese bread is at once dry and greasy, with almost no...

food, food, food.
i love rochester ‘sauce’. boss sauce, country sweet, dinosaur, chiavetta’s and on and on! there’s so many sauces and so little time. my grandfather was a big foodie…okay, maybe not a foodie, a candy and sweets lover. he used to eat a bag of gingersnaps, then go for the gum drops, then have a 5th avenue bar and then ask me if i had a ‘secret stash’ that...

the last few days have been craft and food heavy! this morning i’m heading to the public market and then waiting for the S.O to arrive! excited! we crafted this tree [this was before we added the ribbons and more greenery] we made cotton yarn decorations [stick yarn in water/starch combo, wrap around balloon, let dry, pop balloon and voila]. i ate too much bison dip! not heluva...

dinner tonight: bistro 135.
[stolen photo!] first off, i’m bummed because because i flaked and forgot my camera…typical. secondly, i took some crummy phone photos that are too terrible to show…my phone takes wonky photos. so it’ll be a verbal review! bistro is located in the heart of east rochester and i was super happy to see the place fairly busy for a thursday evening [it’s nice to see...
